Basketball Recap: Hayes Golden's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Seymour over Heritage

Seymour was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 61-55 heartbreaker at the hands of the Heritage Mountaineers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mountaineers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 61-40 back in January.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hayes Golden, who went 6-for-15 to rack up 19 points and eight boards. Golden continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Abraham Hess was another key player, dropping a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, Seymour smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Seymour's defeat dropped their record down to 8-19. As for Heritage, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 21-9 record this season.

Seymour didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 60-41 loss against Cocke County on the 18th. Heritage does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
