Recap: Sahuaro Cougars vs. Tanque Verde Hawks
The Sahuaro Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 24 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat Tanque Verde 81-40 at home. The victory was familiar territory for Sahuaro who now have seven in a row.
Sahuaro found their leader in underclassman Cisco Llamas, who went 8 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 31 points and 6 assists. The contest was Llamas' tenth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Nick Ponds, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
When it comes to explaining why Tanque Verde lost, one person who can't be blamed is Rich Knott. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds.
Sahuaro's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.8 points per game. As for Tanque Verde, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.
Sahuaro will play host again and welcome Doherty, where tip off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Tanque Verde won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Walden Grove at 7:00 p.m. on December 14th. Walden Grove has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
