Volleyball Game Preview: Leander Lions vs. Hays Hawks

Leander and Hays are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2017, but not for long. The Lions will be playing at home against the Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Leander is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Liberty Hill just ended the team's four-match winning streak on Friday. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers.

Leander started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 24-26, 25-14, 25-19, 25-22.

Loss or not, Leander got some senior leadership from Sierra Lumbreras and Ella Roseberry. Lumbreras had 12 digs and three aces, while Roseberry had 11 digs. Lumbreras is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served two or more in each of the last five games she's played.

Meanwhile, Hays came up short against Cedar Park on Friday, falling 3-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Hawks in their meetings with the Timberwolves: they've now lost seven in a row.

The final score came out to 25-13, 25-9, 25-11.

Hays now has a losing record of 18-19. As for Leander, their loss dropped their record down to 21-19.

Leander took their victory against Hays when the teams last played back in September by a conclusive 3-0 score. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
