Clayton Valley Charter's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on St. Joseph Notre Dame with a sharp 17-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Ugly Eagles.
Jazlene Shipe made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Izabella Holt, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Angelina Vargas, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Clayton Valley Charter kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Joseph Notre Dame only managed one hit.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for California, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They skirted past Dougherty Valley 1-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Grizzlies have posted since May 7, 2024.
California also got a great performance from Audrey Cotton as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 5.2 innings pitched. With that strong performance, Cotton is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game.
On the hitting side, Shayla Santolucito was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
California has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. Clayton Valley Charter's victory bumped their record up to 4-1-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster.
