Volleyball Recap: Sofia Sedano and Kenadie Pina Secure Win for Churchill

Churchill took a three-set defeat the last time they faced off against Brandeis, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Chargers had just enough and edged out the Broncos 3-2 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Chargers have posted since August 29th.

Churchill was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. The match finished with set scores of 25-27, 25-19, 16-25, 25-16, 15-13.

Leading Churchill to victory were Kenadie Pina and Sofia Sedano. Pina had 18 digs and two aces, while Sedano had three digs and three aces. Sedano is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 14 or more in each of the last ten games she's played.

They weren't the only good servers: Churchill was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in five consecutive contests.

Brandeis' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Madi Sauceda, who had ten digs and three aces, and Samantha Blazquez, who had 15 digs and two aces.

Churchill's record now sits at 23-15. As for Brandeis, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-23.

Looking ahead, Churchill will host SA Roosevelt at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chargers are facing the Rough Riders at the right time seeing as the Rough Riders are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Brandeis, they will head out to challenge Clark at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
