Basketball Recap: Purnell Swett Comes Up Short

Purnell Swett played a tough matchup on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Douglas Byrd Eagles, falling 76-40. The Rams were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-18.

Purnell Swett's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jeremiah Barnes, who went 5-for-12 on his way to 13 points. Branlon Brooks was another key player, putting up ten points.

Douglas Byrd's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Marcus 'MJ' McDuffie, who almost dropped a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. The game was McDuffie's fourth in a row with at least 18 points. Jourdan Brown-Johnson also deserves some recognition as he posted his first blocks of the season.

Purnell Swett's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Douglas Byrd, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Looking ahead, Purnell Swett will venture away from home to take on Red Springs at 7:30 p.m. on the 10th. As for Douglas Byrd, they will welcome Lumberton at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles will need to watch out since the Pirates have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
