Baseball Game Preview: Poly Prep Country Day Blue Devils vs. McQuaid Jesuit Knights

The Poly Prep Country Day Blue Devils will challenge the McQuaid Jesuit Knights at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Poly Prep Country Day's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three matchups, but Saturday's contest will give them a chance to turn things around.

While Poly Prep Country Day's win against Chaminade wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Blue Devils' pitcher stepped up to hand the Flyers a 2-0 shutout on Thursday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Blue Devils as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Not much got past Justice De Jong, who gave up just four hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Chaminade off the board. De Jong also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Poly Prep Country Day is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-5 otherwise.

Meanwhile, McQuaid Jesuit suffered their biggest defeat since April 26, 2024 on Thursday. They lost 12-1 to Iona Prep. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Knights' biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.

McQuaid Jesuit saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daniel Luce, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.

Poly Prep Country Day pushed their record up to 5-7 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for McQuaid Jesuit, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
