Nysean Harris Johnson went supernova, rushing for 123 yards and a pair of TDs. Those 123 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.
Another reason for the win was Annapolis' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Rion Jackson, Zach Boyd, and Elijah Forrester, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Meanwhile, Bowie and Laurel were almost perfectly matched up on Friday, but Bowie suffered a 13-12 defeat.
Annapolis will have to contain Ethan White as he made an impact in Bowie's last game. He rushed for 76 yards and one score.
While Bowie came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Laurel: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 46.7%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from four players: Matthew Mensah, David Hockman, Javian Canty, and Dyson David-Sterling, who each logged one passes deflected. Bowie wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 37.5%.
Annapolis has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 26.5 points over those games. As for Bowie, they dropped their record down to 2-7 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Friday's matchup might be decided in the trenches. Annapolis has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 148.7 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Bowie, though, as they've been averaging only 87.3 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
