Baseball Recap: Western Wayne Wildcats vs. Lakeland Chiefs
Western Wayne couldn't quite beat Lakeland on Saturday but the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 12-point loss they were dealt last Tuesday. The Western Wayne Wildcats fell just short of the Lakeland Chiefs by a score of 6-4. Western Wayne has not had much luck with Lakeland recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Ethan Lamberton made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
On Lakeland's side, Tyler Uram was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Uram has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive pitching appearances. Uram was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with a home run and a stolen base.
In other batting news, Jake McFarland was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Western Wayne's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Lakeland, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.
Western Wayne will head out on the road to take on Old Forge at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Old Forge's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Western Wayne's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lakeland, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Lackawanna Trail at 4:30 p.m.
