Football Recap: South Putnam's Rushing Attack Does It Again

With a playoff win on the line, South Putnam rose to the challenge on Friday. They came out on top against the Riverton Parke Panthers by a score of 29-21. The win almost wasn't to be: the Eagles were down 21-7 in the second quarter.

Ty Benton continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 251 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 13.9 yards per carry. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in August.

Benton was just one part of a punishing run game: South Putnam was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 309 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 213 rushing yards in 16 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Although Riverton Parke took the loss, they still got scores from Derek Collom, Brody McConnell, and Collett Sanders.

South Putnam is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 13.6 points on average over those games. Having lost for the first time this season, Riverton Parke fell to 11-1.

Looking ahead, South Putnam will be playing at home against Sheridan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Riverton Parke does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
