Basketball Recap: Mia Mitchell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Watauga over Greeneville

Watauga played a tough matchup on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Greeneville Greene Devils, falling 66-40. The Pioneers' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Watauga's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mia Mitchell, who posted 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy Torgerson, who earned nine points.

Leading Greeneville to victory were Maria Lyde and Julia Woolsey. Lyde dropped a double-double with 26 points and ten boards, while Woolsey dropped a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds. With that strong performance, Lyde is now averaging an impressive 17 points per game. Paizley Christian also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Watauga's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Greeneville, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Coming up, Watauga will be playing in front of their home fans against A.C. Reynolds at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Greeneville, they will head out to square off against Science Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
