Recap: Rincon/University Rangers vs. Marana Tigers
The Rincon/University Rangers were the 43-37 winner over the Marana Tigers when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Rincon/University took a 52-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Marana. Rincon/University found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post nine fewer assists than your opponent.
Despite the loss, Rincon/University still got an impressive performance from Leila O'Dowd, who scored 30 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. That was a full 65.2% of Rincon/University's points, marking the 11th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sabrina Wexler, who scored 11 points.
Leading Marana to victory were Malaysia Roebuck and Adrian Griffin. Roebuck dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Griffin scored 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Roebuck's trending in the right direction, as she's improved his point production for three games straight. Kameran Coto was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds.
Rincon/University now has a losing record at 11-12. As for Marana, their victory bumped their record up to 6-15.
Rincon/University will head out on the road to challenge Sunnyside at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sunnyside is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games. Marana won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against American Leadership Academy - Gilbert North at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. American Leadership Academy - Gilbert North is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
