Volleyball Recap: Newman Grove/St. Edward Takes a Loss

Newman Grove/St. Edward lost against Burwell back in September and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Panthers took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Longhorns. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.

Kailey Patzel paced Newman Grove/St. Edward's offense, picking up eight kills. Patzel got some help from Olivia Reardon and her eight assists. Patzel was also a major player on defense: she and she shared the team lead in blocks, finishing with three each.

Karsyn Bower was the offensive standout of the matchup as she had eight digs and one assist.

Newman Grove/St. Edward's defeat dropped their record down to 12-15. As for Burwell, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season.

Newman Grove/St. Edward didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against McCool Junction on the 23rd. As for Burwell, they have also already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Elba on the 20th.
