Game recap: Central High School Football Team wins against Manatee

BRADENTON, Fla. - After taking the lead in the fourth quarter, Central (Fort Pierce, Fla.) held on for a 17-15 victory over Manatee (Bradenton, Fla.) on Saturday. The difference for the Cobras was that Danny Garcia kicked a field goal.

The Cobras led 7-0 at halftime, but the Hurricanes regained the lead on a field goal by Nick Pennebacker with 7:00 remaining in the fourth. Central finally took the lead for the win when Garcia kicked a field goal with 2:00 left in the fourth quarter.

CHS expanded its lead to eight points entering the fourth quarter. The Fort Pierce school's lone score in the quarter came on a touchdown pass by Sam Vaughn to Alquawn Vickers.

The loss came as a shock for Manatee, which entered the game ranked No. 3 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Florida, while the Cobras were ranked No. 20. MHS came into the game with two wins out of the past three games between the two teams.

Central went into the matchup giving up only 14.1 points per game. The 15 points that the Bradenton school ended with were well below its average of 38.1 coming into the game.



The victory was a completely different match up compared to last season's game between these two teams, which the Hurricanes took, 51-0.

The loss comes after Manatee defeated Vero Beach 34-28 last week.

MHS (11-1) will play a playoff game against Central next week. The Cobras will bring a record of 10-1 into the meeting.
