For the first time this season, Franklin will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will host the Coronado Thunderbirds at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Franklin has given up an average of 8.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Coronado is facing Franklin at the wrong time: Franklin suffered their first home loss of the season on Friday and they're likely out for redemption. They lost 22-6 to the Conquistadores.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Coronado). They blew past Horizon 20-6 on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Thunderbirds in their matchups with the Scorpions: they've now won five in a row.
Caroline Villegas looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she posted two strikeouts, the most she's had over her last five matchups.
At the plate, Coronado got a massive performance out of Simone Coppinger, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits Coppinger has posted over her last 12 contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Vanessa Garcia, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.
Coronado was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .688. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in five consecutive games.
Franklin's defeat dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Coronado, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 7-15.
