Baseball Game Preview: Sebastian River Sharks vs. Merritt Island Mustangs

The Sebastian River Sharks will take on the Merritt Island Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Sebastian River has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Merritt Island will arrive with four straight wins.

Sebastian River came up into this matchup off a tough seven-run defeat on Wednesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of John Carroll Catholic by a score of 3-1 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Sharks have suffered since March 28, 2024.

Julius Lewis made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Merritt Island got themselves on the board against Eau Gallie on Wednesday, but Eau Gallie never followed suit. They won by a run and slipped past the Commodores 1-0.

Merritt Island also got a great performance from Shane Patrick as he didn't allow a single earned run and only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched.

At the plate, Merritt Island's victory was truly a team effort as two different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ty Brandes, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Sebastian River's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Merritt Island, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.
