Basketball Recap: Greene County Comes Up Short

Greene County lost against Pass Christian on January 10th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Greene County Wildcats were dealt a 79-51 loss at the hands of the Pass Christian Pirates. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Wildcats have suffered since February 9, 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Greene County lost, don't look at Jase Matthews. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine boards. Matthews is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 13 games he's played. Tylan Blackston was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Greene County's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-11. As for Pass Christian, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 17-8.

Greene County and Pass Christian should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings. Greene County (ranked 136th) will meet Poplarville (ranked 305th) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Greene County will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Meanwhile, Pass Christian will square off against Sumrall at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday up 152 places (57 vs. 209).
