Football Game Preview: Scotch Plains-Fanwood Raiders vs. Summit Hilltoppers

Scotch Plains-Fanwood hasn't had much luck against Summit recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Raiders will head out on the road to face off against the Hilltoppers at 1:00 p.m. Scotch Plains-Fanwood has given up an average of 28.6 points per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Scotch Plains-Fanwood is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Perth Amboy on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Raiders came up short against the Panthers, falling 34-14. The Raiders were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 27-0.

Although Scotch Plains-Fanwood took the loss, they still got scores from Joey Reeves and Paul Boyle.

Meanwhile, Summit narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Woodbridge 10-7. Those ten points were actually the fewest the Hilltoppers have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Summit's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 13.0 points on average over those games. As for Scotch Plains-Fanwood, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.

Scotch Plains-Fanwood was dealt a bruising 44-7 defeat at the hands of Summit in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
