Football Game Preview: Firebaugh Eagles vs. Coalinga Horned Toads

Firebaugh and Coalinga are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2017, but not for long. The Eagles will challenge the Horned Toads at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Firebaugh will be strutting in after a victory while Coalinga will be coming in after a loss.

Firebaugh is returning home triumphant after the team finally put their road woes behind them against Del Oro last Friday. The Eagles came out on top against the Suns by a score of 21-14.

A big part of Firebaugh's win came down to the chemistry between Leonardo Perez and his top target Dominic Barajas. Perez rushed for 87 yards and one TD on only 11 carries while Barajas picked up 103 receiving yards and one touchdown. That's the most receiving yards Barajas has posted since back in November of 2024. Firebaugh also got a significant boost from Ryan Luna, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 104 yards.

Firebaugh was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 227 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Del Oro only rushed for 35.

Meanwhile, Coalinga managed to keep up with Washington Union until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Horned Toads came up short against the Panthers, falling 28-6. The contest marked the Horned Toads' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Firebaugh will have to keep a close watch on Tyson Alvarado and Dominik Aguerralde, a pair of players who had a big impact on Coalinga's prior game. Alvarado rushed for 92 yards and one score, while Aguerralde picked up 38 receiving yards.

Coalinga's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Firebaugh, they now also have a winning record of 3-2.

Friday's matchup will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Luna and Alvarado. Luna just won't slow down this season and has run in 3 touchdowns while averaging 110.6 rushing yards per game. Alvarado has been a dominant force too and has run in 8 touchdowns while averaging 94.8 rushing yards per game.

Firebaugh was taken down by Coalinga 36-0 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Eagles, Julius Borjas (who rushed for 125 yards and a pair of TDs on only 14 carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
