Baseball Recap: Cloverdale Starts off Right with Win over Dugger Union

Cloverdale gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They put the hurt on the Dugger Union Bulldogs with a sharp 20-4 victory. The win continues a trend for the Clovers in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won eight in a row.

Drake Hoffa made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Hoffa was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Cloverdale got a massive performance out of Hudson Young, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave Young a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Corey Branigan, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Cloverdale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .711. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dugger Union only posted an OBP of .273.

Dugger Union's defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cloverdale is headed away from home for the first time to challenge White River Valley at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Dugger Union, they will square off against Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine at 4:00 p.m. on the 16th.
