Football Game Preview: Mays Raiders vs. M.L. King Lions + How To Watch

The Mays Raiders will face off against the M.L. King Lions at 7:31 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Mays: they have been struggling with five straight losses at home dating back to last season, while M.L. King has snatched up five consecutive wins on the road.

On Friday, Mays didn't have too much trouble with Jackson as they won 22-7.

One reason for the win was Mays' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Zaykeya Carter Jr and Malik Glass, who racked up four sacks between them. Glass is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last 12 games he's played dating back to last season. Another thorn in Jackson's side was Gerald Hunter, who made eight total tackles and defended three passes in addition to snagging two interceptions.

M.L. King never got on the board in their matchup two weeks ago, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Midtown on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Knights 40-6. Considering the Lions have won three games by more than 23 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

M.L. King's win came from a few key players Mays will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Javion Dobbs, who threw for 288 yards and three TDs while picking up 13.7 yards per attempt. Jamarcus Harper helped Dobbs out on the ground, rushing for 140 yards and one touchdown on only 12 carries.

M.L. King's run defense was locked in: Midtown could only muster 1.1 yards per carry. While two picked up at least nine total tackles, Christopher Dupree stood above the rest. He made nine total tackles (3.0 for loss). M.L. King didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 9.5.

Mays' win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for M.L. King, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.

Mays didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against M.L. King in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, but they still walked away with a 20-15 win.
