Basketball Recap: Downey Falls to Woodrow Wilson in First Game of Season + How To Watch

Downey unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Monday and fell 61-60 to the Woodrow Wilson Bruins. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bruins apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2016.

Matthew Topete and Lucas Morales certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Topete went 6-for-14 on his way to 21 points in addition to seven boards and five steals, while Morales shot 67% from the field en route to 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Christopher Medina, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 10 points and eight rebounds.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Downey will square off against Artesia at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Woodrow Wilson, they will challenge Palmdale at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
