Basketball Recap: Luella Extends Home Winning Streak to Nine

It was a proper cat-fight when Luella challenged Stephenson on Tuesday. The Luella Lions came out on top against the Stephenson Jaguars by a score of 58-46. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 55th, while the Jaguars are ranked 220th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jasmine Baxter had an outrageously good game as she dropped a double-double on 22 points and 23 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Leilani Ward, who posted ten points and six assists.

Luella was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Luella's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-3. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Stephenson, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Luella will challenge North Clayton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Stephenson, they will take on Douglass at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
