Football Recap: Shadow Mountain Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Shadow Mountain extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 3-5. The game between the Matadors and the Florence Gophers didn't end well, with the Matadors falling 30-12. While the Matadors didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Gophers 6-0 in the first quarter.

Kevin Howerton threw for 83 yards and one TD. Michael Collins was his top target, picking up 44 receiving yards and one touchdown.

As for Florence, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-4. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to yards per carry: they averaged an imposing 7.75 yards per carry in those games compared to only 2.38 in the others.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Florence to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brody Ramirez, who rushed for 96 yards on only six carries, and also threw for 207 yards on only 14 passes. Another back making a difference was Victor Juarez, who rushed for 61 yards and one score.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Shadow Mountain will take on Wickenburg at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Matadors will be up against the Wranglers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 53.57 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Florence, they will face off against Sabino at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
