League recap: Tara climbs in state rankings with win

Tara moved up to 160 from 186 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A District 6. The Trojans were able to make the jump by beating Reed 16-12.

Lutcher suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after besting Istrouma. The Bulldogs had been ranked 19th, but fell to 30 following the defeat.

Lutcher's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. RUSTON MATHERNE threw for 178 and three touchdowns and SULLY MARTIN had 86 yards receiving. On the ground MATHERNE chipped in 63 yards. SPENCER ROUSSEL helped Lutcher's passing attack out by catching two balls for 34 yards.

Lutcher's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Bulldogs feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. MATHERNE has thrown for 961 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, while MARTIN has 19 catches for 266 yards. MATHERNE also leads the league in rushing with 300 yards.

Tim Detillier's team extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Indians, 42-0. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
