Basketball Recap: Garrett Comes Up Short at Home Against Heritage

Garrett unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They came up short against the Heritage Patriots on Wednesday, falling 70-44. The Railroaders were down 48-28 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Despite the loss, Garrett still got an impressive performance from Ayden O'Neal, who went 8-for-10 on his way to 22 points and eight rebounds. Ari Hippensteel was another key player, putting up seven points.

Heritage's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lantae Cassel, who shot 58% from the field en route to 19 points and seven assists. Those seven assists gave Cassel a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kingston Galentine, who posted 13 points and six steals.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Garrett will host Prairie Heights at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup will give the Railroaders their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Heritage, they will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on Whitko at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
