Preview: Covington Trojans vs. Southmont Mounties
Covington is 7-2 against Southmont since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Covington Trojans will look to defend their home court against the Southmont Mounties at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Covington focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
Last Friday, Covington ended up a good deal behind Parke Heritage and lost 66-50. While losing is never fun, Covington can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 305th, while Parke Heritage is ranked 87th).
The losing side was boosted by Coye Ferguson, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. He hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Stein, who scored ten points along with five assists and two steals.
Southmont posted their biggest victory yet this season on Saturday. They blew past Riverton Parke, posting a 57-30 win on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Southmont has posted against Riverton Parke since January 2, 2016.
Covington has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-8 record this season. As for Southmont, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-4.
