Softball Recap: Waterford Comes Up Short

Waterford couldn't beat Union Grove on Tuesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the sixth inning. The Wolverines fell just short of the Broncos by a score of 8-7. The Wolverines have struggled against the Broncos recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Jaydin Kiser spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Grace Goodson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season. Peyton Reinke was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Waterford's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Union Grove, their victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-0.

Looking ahead, Union Grove will host Burlington at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Waterford will be paying especially close attention to the Broncos' game: after the Broncos face off against Beloit Memorial, they'll take on Waterford again at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
