Basketball Recap: Avery County Skates Past Owen with Ease

Avery County won the last time they faced Owen and things went their way on Friday too. The Avery County Vikings blew past the Owen Warhorses 66-27. The Vikings have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 contests by 24 points or more this season.

Avery County found their leader in sophomore Caroline Hollifield, who went 5 for 11 en route to 15 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Marley Jones, who posted 11 points and three steals.

Avery County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

Owen lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Elly Wright, who earned ten points. Wright has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Savannah Hollingsworth was another key player, putting up seven points.

Avery County is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.6 points over those games. As for Owen, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-19.
