Basketball Game Preview: Loogootee Lions vs. Shoals Jug Rox

Loogootee has gone 9-1 against Shoals recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Lions will welcome the Jug Rox at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Loogootee has three straight wins, Shoals has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Loogootee is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Mitchell: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Lions blew the Bluejackets out of the water with a 56-18 final score. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 30-9.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Loogootee to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alaina Diamond, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 12 boards. The matchup was Diamond's third in a row with at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was Lydia Hawkins, who shot 50% from the field on her way to 16 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.

Loogootee smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Meanwhile, Shoals was beaten by Orleans 57-21 on Tuesday.

Shoals' defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Loogootee, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.

Everything came up roses for Loogootee against Shoals in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 61-27 win. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Jug Rox turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
