Softball Recap: Stone Memorial Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Stone Memorial took on DeKalb County on Friday. The Panthers fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 6-5. The Panthers have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.

Kenzie Jackson put in work no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Jackson was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.

In other batting news, Ashely Whittenburg was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Alexis Jackson also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

The defeat was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 9-2. As for DeKalb County, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.

Stone Memorial will challenge Clarkrange at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. DeKalb County will be paying especially close attention to the Panthers' game: after the Panthers faces off against the Buffaloes, they'll take on DeKalb County again at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
