Baseball Game Preview: Melrose-Mindoro Mustangs vs. Westby Norsemen

The Melrose-Mindoro Mustangs will head out to square off against the Westby Norsemen at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Melrose-Mindoro took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Whitehall, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Mustangs had just enough and edged out the Norse 11-10.

The team relied heavily on Eric Herzberg, who scored a run while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Colton Koss, who went 2-for-6 with one triple and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Westby hadn't done well against Prairie du Chien recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Norsemen's pitchers stepped up to hand the Blackhawks a 10-0 shutout. Ten seems to be a good number for the Norsemen as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

The win was the third in a row for Westby, bringing their record up to 3-0. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.7 runs this season. As for Melrose-Mindoro, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Melrose-Mindoro suffered a grim 16-4 defeat to Westby when the teams last played back in May of 2021. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
