Football Recap: Lumpkin County Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Lumpkin County dropped to 5-4 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. The contest between the Indians and the Dawson County Tigers didn't end well, with the Indians falling 31-14. Surprisingly, this marked the Indians' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Despite the loss, Lumpkin County still got an impressive performance from Nolan Matthews, who rushed for 262 yards and two TDs while picking up 10.9 yards per carry. Matthews really tore up the turf during one magnificent 80-yard run.

As for Dawson County, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.3 points over those games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Dawson County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cody Mcbrayer, who rushed for 205 yards and a pair of scores. Those 205 rushing yards gave Mcbrayer a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brody Sorensen, who rushed for 54 yards and one touchdown.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Lumpkin County will take on rival Pickens at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Matthews and Ike Wyngaard. Meanwhile, Dawson County is set to challenge their familiar foe North Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 913 yards in their previous games.
