Football Game Preview: Maria Carrillo Pumas vs. St. Vincent de Paul Mustangs + How To Watch

Maria Carrillo hasn't had much luck against St. Vincent de Paul recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Pumas will head out to face off against the Mustangs at 1:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Maria Carrillo is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They snuck past Las Lomas with a 35-31 win.

Estefan Ramirez continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, picking up 219 receiving yards and two scores, while also punching in one TD on the ground. He really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 84 yards. Another player making a difference was Cooper Bluestone, who threw for 353 yards and three touchdowns on perfect 12-for-12 passing.

Meanwhile, St. Vincent de Paul waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They took down the Tigers 42-28. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Mustangs' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 151st, while the Tigers are ranked 420th).

Maria Carrillo better keep an eye on Willy Pedersen. He was instrumental in St. Vincent de Paul's win, throwing for 243 yards and three TDs on only 19 passes. Those three passing touchdowns gave Pedersen a new career-high.

St. Vincent de Paul's victory bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Maria Carrillo, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.

Saturday's game might be decided on the ground. Maria Carrillo has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 222 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like St. Vincent de Paul struggles in that department as they've been averaging 184.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Saturday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Maria Carrillo might still be hurting after the 39-14 defeat they got from St. Vincent de Paul in their previous meeting last Saturday. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Pumas were down 27-7.
