Baseball Recap: West Prairie Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

West Prairie extended their winning streak to four on Thursday, bumping them up to 9-9-1. They were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over the Bushnell-Prairie City Spartans. That looming 17-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Cyclones yet this season.

West Prairie gave Tyson Carnes the start and clearly made the right call: he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Carnes has posted since back in March.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Braden Coplan, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. West Prairie is 4-1 when Coplan posts two or more runs, but 5-8-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Holden Coplan, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

West Prairie kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

As for Bushnell-Prairie City, their loss dropped their record down to 2-22. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Bushnell-Prairie City's side, Connor Palm was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

West Prairie wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 9-0 defeat against Illini West on the 8th. As for Bushnell-Prairie City, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-5 loss against Farmington on the 9th.
