Softball Recap: Eastern Wayne Warriors vs. Wayne Christian Eagles

Eastern Wayne fell victim to Wayne Christian and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They suffered a rough 8-0 loss at the hands of the Wayne Christian Eagles. Eastern Wayne has not had much luck with Wayne Christian recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Mallory Reed spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts every time she's pitched this season.

Even though they lost, Eastern Wayne didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with 16 strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wayne Christian only tossed ten.

On Wayne Christian's side, not much got past Riley Sutton, who gave up just three hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Eastern Wayne off the board.

On the hitting side, Ella Fox was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was A.J. Verme, who went 2-for-4 with a home run, a stolen base, and two RBI.

Eastern Wayne's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Wayne Christian, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-3.

Eastern Wayne didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 15-0 victory vs. Goldsboro on the 16th. Wayne Christian has also already played their next game, a 5-2 win against Pungo Christian Academy on the 16th.
