Basketball Recap: Troup County Starts Season with Win on the Road

Troup County had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They enjoyed a cozy 88-71 win over the Shaw Raiders on Tuesday. For the Tigers, this counts as revenge for the 70-56 victory the Raiders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2022.

Jalen Brown was nothing short of spectacular: he dropped a triple-double with 26 points, 15 boards, and 11 assists. Those 11 assists gave him a new career-high. Vakeil Garretthammett was another key player, shooting 70% from the field en route to 21 points and seven rebounds.

Shaw's loss came despite strong showings from Javi Moore and Alenzo Talley. Moore posted 19 points and five boards, while Talley had 17 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brenden Houston-Baldwin, who scored eight points.

Having lost for the first time this season, Shaw fell to 2-1.

Coming up, Troup County will take on Harris County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Shaw, they have already played their next game, a 67-60 loss against Chattahoochee County on the 15th.
