Baseball Recap: Escalon Starts Season with Victory at Home

Escalon gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Liberty Ranch Hawks a 3-0 shutout. This was payback for the Cougars, who suffered a 7-5 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Josh Fiori was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over 4.2 innings pitched. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

Fiori wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lorenzo Texeira, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Escalon will face off against Beyer at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Liberty Ranch, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Marysville at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
