Basketball Recap: Crete Cardinals vs. Gering Bulldogs
Crete proved they can win big last Saturday (they won by 28) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 53-50 victory over the Gering Bulldogs. The Cardinals have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bulldogs, too.
Despite the loss, Gering saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jacey Cochran went 7 for 11 on her way to 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenzie Todd, who posted 13 points in addition to five assists and five steals.
Crete's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-6. As for Gering, they moved to 5-3 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.
Crete has already played their next match, a 60-52 victory against Scottsbluff on the 11th. As for Gering, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 71-37 loss against Bennington on the 11th.
