After a string of three wins, Osceola's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 35-27 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lake Wales Highlanders. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Kowboys, who until this matchup were averaging 13.33 points allowed.

Loss or not, Osceola got some senior leadership from Alijah Jenkins and Jeffrey Sinophat. Jenkins gained 147 total yards and a touchdown, while Sinophat rushed for 122 yards and one score.

Even if they lost, Osceola's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Amier Clarke was especially locked on to Lake Wales' QB and sacked him twice. Clarke is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made six or more in each of the last four games he's played. Nathaniel Barnett was another major factor on D, making nine total tackles (4.0 for loss).

Lake Wales' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaneilius Purdy, who picked up 202 receiving yards and three TDs. Purdy also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making six total tackles and defending one pass. Lake Wales also got a significant boost from Kamari Smith, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 127 yards.

Osceola's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Lake Wales, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.

Osceola has already played their next contest, a 28-18 loss against Lakewood on the 31st. As for Lake Wales, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 41-14 win against Bartow on the 31st.
