Softball Recap: Friday's Win Is Taft's Seventh in Last Nine Outings

With a playoff win on the line, Taft rose to the challenge on Friday. They walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Johnson Jaguars. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Raiders also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2024.

Alyssa Rangel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Sophia Quiroz was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Briana Aguilar was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Taft has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season. As for Johnson, the defeat snapped their winning streak at eight games and leaves them with a 18-6 record.

Taft will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Jaguars: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled on Saturday.
