Recap: Richland Royals vs. Mansfield Timberview Wolves
The Richland Royals put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against Mansfield Timberview by a score of 37-27. The score was all tied up 21-21 at the break, but Richland was the (much) better team in the second half.
Richland's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Michael Turner, who rushed for 165 yards and three touchdowns. Turner hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for five straight games. Drew Kates was another key contributor, throwing for 249 yards and two touchdowns on only 17 passes.
Mansfield Timberview's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Jaylon Woods, who rushed for 54 yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Zuric Humes, who threw for 142 yards and a touchdown.
Richland's win was their fifth straight at home (dating back to last season), which pushed their record up to 10-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.2 points per game. As for Mansfield Timberview, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-1.
Richland will head out on the road to face off against Molina on Friday. Molina will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 801st, while Richland is ranked 118th). As for Mansfield Timberview, they will be playing at home against Adams at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
