Softball Game Preview: Humble Wildcats vs. Atascocita Eagles

Humble hasn't had much luck against Atascocita recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Eagles at 6:30 p.m. Humble will be strutting in after a win while Atascocita will be coming in after a loss.

Having struggled with eight defeats in a row, Humble turned things around against Channelview on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 21-2 margin over the Falcons. That looming 21-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Wildcats yet this season.

Natalie Garcia made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Suarez, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Kira Gonzales was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Atascocita faced Summer Creek in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Eagles fell 7-4 to the Bulldogs. The Eagles' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Maya Hernandez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched.

At the plate, Kaitlyn Miller was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Cailynn Ruzick, who went 2-for-3 with one home run.

Atascocita's defeat dropped their record down to 19-4. As for Humble, the victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 5-19.
