Preview: Millbrook Wildcats vs. Wake Forest Cougars
Millbrook is 10-0 against Wake Forest since December of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Millbrook Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Wake Forest Cougars at 6:15 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Friday, Millbrook was beaten by Rolesville 72-27. While losing is never fun, Millbrook can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 312th, while Rolesville is ranked 19th).
Ariana Morris was Millbrook's leading scorer, having posted seven points. Morris also led the team in rebounds with five.
Lucy Ellis took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with three assists.
Meanwhile, Wake Forest was the victim of a tough 64-40 defeat at the hands of Wakefield on Friday. Wake Forest has not had much luck with Wakefield recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Chiquora Miles, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. Audra Hillman was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Millbrook and nudges their season record down to 6-16. As for Wake Forest, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-8 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Millbrook have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Wake Forest struggles in that department as they've been averaging 37.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Millbrook was able to grind out a solid win over Wake Forest when the teams last played two weeks ago, winning 47-36. The rematch might be a little tougher for Millbrook since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
