Basketball Recap: Whites Creek Comes Up Short

If Whites Creek was riding high fresh off their 82-23 takedown of McGavock on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cobras took an 83-75 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pope John Paul II Knights on Friday. The Cobras lost against the Knights in their previous head to head back in November of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 85-54 score last time.

Osby Cavin was nothing short of spectacular for Pope John Paul II: he went 6-for-11 from beyond the arc to rack up 45 points and six rebounds. Cavin's evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Wiggins, who shot 54% from the field en route to 17 points.

Whites Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Pope John Paul II, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-0.

Coming up, Whites Creek will square off against Goodpasture Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Pope John Paul II, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Centennial at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
