Baseball Recap: Six Straight Home Wins for Mission Bay

Mission Bay had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Sweetwater on Tuesday. The Mission Bay Buccaneers put the hurt on the Sweetwater Red Devils with a sharp 10-1 victory. The Buccaneers haven't had any issues with the Red Devils recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Blake Barnes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up six Ks. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Josh Phelps was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Vince Kasunich, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Mission Bay hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.

Mission Bay pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Sweetwater, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2.

Looking ahead, Mission Bay will be taking part in a tournament against Chula Vista at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sweetwater, they will take on Bishop's in a tournament on Thursday.
