Basketball Game Preview: San Clemente Tritons vs. Cabrillo Jaguars

The San Clemente Tritons and the Cabrillo Jaguars will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

San Clemente is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed by Costa Mesa to the tune of 108-48 on Friday. The Tritons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 31 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Christian Fernandez, who went 8 of 12 from beyond the arc on his way to 48 points in addition to seven rebounds and six assists. Those 48 points gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Porter Hansen, who went 9 of 14 on his way to 21 points.

San Clemente smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive games.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Cabrillo faced off against Arlington on Friday. Cabrillo fell just short of Arlington by a score of 59-57.

San Clemente will need focus on slowing down Lincoln Dean, one of several Cabrillo players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 13 points and six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinsey Obue, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 16 boards.

San Clemente has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.0 points per game. As for Cabrillo, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: San Clemente has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 34.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Cabrillo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 38.9 boards.
