Baseball Recap: Columbine Rebels vs. Valor Christian Eagles
Columbine dropped their record down to 6-9 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 15-4 to the Valor Christian Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-0 on Saturday.
James Salazar made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Cameron Powell was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs.
As for Valor Christian, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-9. That 11 run margin sets a new team best for them this season.
On Valor Christian's side, Trystan Chadwick made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Chadwick also tossed a walk, which is notable because Valor Christian is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-8 otherwise. Chadwick was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
In other pitching news, Valor Christian got a great performance from Brigham Brown as he struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.
Back at the plate, Travis Kenz was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Matteucci, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
