Softball Preview: Goshen Central Gladiators vs. Cornwall Central Dragons
The Goshen Central Gladiators will head out on the road to challenge the Cornwall Central Dragons at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Goshen Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Goshen Central got the win against Roosevelt by a conclusive 14-2. The Gladiators have beaten the Presidents the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Presidents has come to flipping the script.
Addison Freiberger was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and only one walk). Freiberger was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Mia Antolino and Sophia Springer did most of the damage at the plate: Antolino went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Springer went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Springer a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bailey Gomulka, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Goshen Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 21 runs the game before, Cornwall Central was a bit more limited in their match on Friday. They lost 9-1 to Kingston.
Cornwall Central's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Goshen Central, their record is now 7-2.
Goshen Central skirted past Cornwall Central 4-3 in their previous matchup back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Gladiators since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
