Basketball Game Preview: Mendon Vikings vs. Canandaigua Academy Gray Wolves

Mendon is 7-2 against Canandaigua Academy since December of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Vikings will look to defend their home court against the Gray Wolves at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Canandaigua Academy will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Mendon extended their winning streak to four on Wednesday. The Vikings came within six points of losing the streak, but they secured a 66-60 W against Honeoye Falls-Lima. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while the Cougars are ranked 423rd) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Canandaigua Academy). They came out on top against Greece Olympia by a score of 64-55 on Wednesday. The Gray Wolves haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Canandaigua Academy's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Mendon, their win bumped their record up to 7-1.

Everything came up roses for Mendon against Canandaigua Academy in their previous meeting back in December of 2025, as the team secured an 85-44 victory. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Gray Wolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
